Chaos and Finnish Winter.
Hey everyone! I haven't had much time to sit down and write as life has been pretty hectic. This season so far has been one filled with transitions. Transitions into a new apartment, transitions into looking for new employment, transitions into new hopes and goals for my own life and my social media projects...
It's all been a bit chaotic.
But, alongside this chaos has been plenty of fun and excitement. Today I woke up to an absolute downpour of thick, fluffy snow. This may seem odd to some of you to hear snow described as 'exciting'. But to me it is. You see, in Finland, the winter can either be incredibly beautiful or incredibly depressing. This winter, thus far, has been the latter.
Up until this point it has been dark, rainy, and overall pretty gloomy. That has definitely not helped get my creative juices flowing. But today, the snow finally came. Sure, it'll likely be melted by tomorrow. But for now, I get to enjoy the brightness of the moon reflecting off the snow crystals. I get to enjoy the view out of my 3rd story window as the trees are dusted, and the lights on the houses below twinkle. It's truly something magnificent.
There's a joke I often tell when people ask me why I moved to Finland. I will answer with, 'for the weather!' While that is obviously a playful ribbing at Finland, it isn't always a lie. Days like this make all of the other gloom of the winter season in Finland worth it.
So, amidst the chaos of my life transitions, I will enjoy the snow. I will make some tea in my muumimuki, have some piparkakku, and enjoy the Finnish winter.
Kiitos,
- Josh
